Dr. DeLong graduated with a D.M.D. from Washington University Dentistry program in 1972. He then completed his Residency in Oral Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1975. During his residency he completed a Master of Science in Oral Surgery. At the completion of his Residency in Oral Surgery, Dr. DeLong joined Great River Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (formerly West Third Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery).
Dr. DeLong achieved board certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 1978 and is recognized as a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is the past president of the Dubuque County Dental Society, the Dubuque County District Dental Society, the Tri-State Dentistry for Children, as well as the Iowa Oral Surgery Society (2003). In addition, Dr. DeLong was the former Vice President of the Iowa Oral Surgery Society in 2002 and has been a delegate for the State of Iowa to the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) since 1994. He continues active membership in these organizations as well as the Iowa Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
Dr. DeLong is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (1975-1977, 1994-present).
